The Romans have always known how to have a good time, and every summer the Eternal City comes alive with festivals, performances and celebrations of all kinds. Here’s our top picks for summer 2013!
Rock in Roma
Get your rock on at the Ippodromo Capannelle, which hosts some of the world’s best rock bands for a summer-long festival — this year Green Day, Bruce Springsteen, The Smashing Pumpkins, Deep Purple, The Killers and My Bloody Valentine are all coming to town. Festival details here.
Invito Alla Danza
This annual dance fest is held in the beautiful gardens of the Villa Pamphili. The programme, with both classical and modern offerings, presents a performance every evening for about two weeks, and often includes international companies and stars. Event details here.
Stagione Estiva del Teatro dell’Opera
The spectacular venue for the Opera di Roma’s summer season is a breathtaking archaeological site. Set designers usually exploit the unique backdrop of majestic Roman ruins with few props and dramatic lighting. Puccini’s famous work, Tosca, plays August 1-6th. Event details here.
